Using the Project ECHO service delivery model, WA INCLUDE’s ECHO Complex Behavior series supports individuals with complex behavior needs by considering medical, environmental, and psychiatric factors. We connect professionals across Washington—including BCBAs, educators, clinicians, and community partners—through interactive remote training sessions, promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration and generation of meaningful, actionable strategies and support. Each session consists of practical learning through didactic instruction and a real-world case consultation focused on navigating complex behavior.
Each ECHO session consists of a didactic presentation followed by a real-world case presentation. Sessions are collaborative and designed to prepare participants for working with cases of complex behavior.
Specific sessions qualify for CE credits in behavioral analysis. ECHO Complex Behavior is an authorized continuing education provider.
Session Dates:
With support from ECHO Complex Behavior, we envision that behavior analysts, SLPs, OTs, and related professionals will become better equipped to support new clients with complex behavior support needs from their respective disciplines. In turn, they will be able to share their knowledge by training others in their communities to manage similar cases.
Our program utilizes state-wide networks of professionals to empower local regional champions through engagement in multidisciplinary collaboration. Increasing the number of practitioners skilled in supporting individuals with significant behaviors of concern ensures effective supports can be embedded across settings (e.g., schools, medical homes, therapeutic settings, mental health clinics, and communities.

We recognize that language matters. In this echo, we typically begin with person-first language and terminology used in applied behavior analysis, adjusting the language depending on individual preference and the needs of the communities we serve. This decision reflects ongoing conversations within our ECHO Complex Behavior HUB team around the importance of language and the meaning behind the words we use. These choices were made thoughtfully, though we acknowledge they are not perfect. Language is dynamic, and preferences vary across individuals and communities. We are committed to respectful and evolving representation, and we welcome feedback on how we can continue to improve the ways we speak about ourselves and the communities we serve.
