An autism Center of Excellence (COE) is a health care provider who has been judged by the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) to be qualified to diagnose autism and write a Medicaid-covered prescription for Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) services if appropriate.
The SMART (School Medical Autism Review Team) program is an innovative collaborative model designed to expand autism diagnostic capacity in rural and underserved Washington communities lacking access to multidisciplinary diagnostic centers.
This program is a partnership between Washington State’s Health Care Authority and the UW LEND Program. The program’s interdisciplinary resource team includes experts from the University of Washington (UW) and Seattle Children’s Autism Center (SCAC).
